The Responsive Classroom morning meeting structure provides a great foundation for creating an engaging and inclusive classroom environment.
The morning meeting message is meant to take less than 1 minute and is a quick and easy way to prepare students for the day ahead. I usually put the morning message as the last element of the morning meeting.
Here are five creative ways to make the morning message more fun:
Math Messages:
Incorporate a math problem into your message to the students. You can even call it, “Math Mondays” or “Math Message.”
See an example below.
Include a quote:
Quotes can be powerful ways to inspire students and convey a message that is important to your students or school day.
A simple quote can help set the mood for the day in a positive way!
Morning Message Mysteries:
Write the morning message with some missing words or phrases, and provide clues for students to guess what should go in the blanks. This can be a fun way to review vocabulary or concepts from previous lessons.
See an example below.
Morning Message Collaborative Activities:
Turn the morning message into a collaborative activity.
For example, create a “fill-in-the-blank” sentence where each student contributes one word, or have them work in pairs to complete a sentence starter.
Feature a Student:
Once a week, feature a student in the morning message. Highlight something positive the student did or share an interesting fact about the student.
You could also play a guessing game and reveal the student’s name at the end to discover who the message is about!
